Nigeria choose 13 para-powerlifters for World Championships
All 13 para-power lifters made up of eight males and five
female now in camp in Ibadan in preparation for
the 2014 Para Powerlifting World Championships in Dubai
April 5 to 11 will attend the event for Nigeria. Coach of the federation,
Areh Feyisetan, who confirmed this on
telephone, also revealed that the athletes chosen in various weight classes,
would be accompanied by the six officials including the federations technical
director, Samuel Ekeoma and secretary, Dapo Akinyele. A notable name missing on the list is is Lucy
Ejike, medalist at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and Beijing 2008 Paralympics in
addition to the 2013 IPC Asian World Championships. The federation however
explained that she had failed the tough test set for the athletes. She did not meet the standards, Areh also
said. “She was not the only one, they were all aware of what was expected of
them in order to be called to camp,” he stated. However, top names including Ibrahim
AbdulazizandYakubu Adesakan, MON, Tolulope Taiwo, Esther Onyema, MON, gold medalist in Delhi
2010 Commonwealth Games and London2012 Paralympic Games, Loveline Obiji, also A
