Pistorius Apologizes To Victim's Family In Court
South African Olympic and Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has apologized to Reeva Steenkamp’s family as his murder trial resumed in Pretoria.
Pistorius took the stand following the first defense witness pathologist Jan Botha, to explain how and why he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Prosecutors say Pistorius is guilty of the premeditated murder on Valentine’s Day last year.
Pistorius claims he killed her accidentally after mistaking her for an intruder. The trial was previously postponed after one of the assessors assisting the judge fell ill. Earlier the high court had heard testimony from witnesses, including one of Pistorius’ neighbors who said she was awoken by a woman’s screams, followed by gunshots. Thokozile Masipa, the single judge, will decide the case with the help of two assessors.
