Tennis: Garcia-Lopez Defeats Granollers In Casablanca Final

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers in three sets Sunday to win the Moroccan Open.
The eighth-seeded Garcia-Lopez picked up a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory over the No. 4 seeded Granollers to win his third career ATP championship and deny Granollers his fifth all-time title.
Garcia-Lopez won 27 of the match's last 33 points to win his first tournament since 2010 in Bangkok.
"I'm very happy to win this title," Garcia-Lopez said. "I have known Marcel for a long time. We practice together in tournaments. The match was really close."
Making his sixth appearance in Casablanca, Garcia-Lopez overcame six double faults to win the match in 2 hours, 38 minutes. It was a big turnaround this week for the 30-year-old, who lost in the first round at his previous three events - all on clay.
The surface yielded a better result Sunday for Garcia-Lopez, who beat Granollers for the second time in as many meetings. Their only other encounter came in the round of 16 at this event four years ago.
"It was a tough match for both," Granollers said. "I think we played solid and I made a few mistakes. I didn't deserve to win the title. It was a big battle today and unfortunately I didn't win the match.
"I'm happy with the week. I won three matches. I go to Monte-Carlo with confidence and I will try to play like (I did) this week."
