Union Bank Chief Charges NBBF On Discipline

The Chairman of Union Bank Basketball Club of Lagos, Emeka Anumenechi, has chided the DStv-sponsored Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) League Board for failing to properly administer the rules of the game during matches.
Anumenechi said in Lagos that the way and manner certain sanctions are being applied against players does not tally with what is generally acceptable in basketball.
“I am not in favour of any unruly player and I abhor unruly behabiour, but the way and manner certain rules are applied do not go down well with me. And I find it unacceptable.
“The League Board to an extent is doing well, but there are certain things that need to be corrected. If for an example a player errs on the court during a game run, you first give him a technical, then the second, an injection after which he could be sanctioned if he continued. But sanctioning a player straight for two games without first giving him technical and an injection is a misapplication of the rules. The referee not giving him a technical first means the player in question did not do any wrong on the court. These things must be corrected’’, Anumenechi said.
He also spoke on his team’s chances in the Atlantic Conference.
“It could have been better, we started poorly, lost our two first matches. Our poor start is not far-fetched, we did not pick players on time so they did not jell, but as time went on they started picking. I must say thanks to our experienced coach, we are topping this conference with two points. The game we won against Dodan Warriors put us ahead on the log. We have three games, two are home and one away. We hope to win the three so as to put us on a good stade for the play-off. We hope to pick one of the two tickets for the continental’’, he concluded.
