Enyimba boss Felix Anyansi Agwu has hailed players and officials
of the club after their qualification to the semi-final of this year's
Federation Cup.
The club beat Sharks FC to remain on course
for a fourth Cup title with two goals from Sokari Kingsley and Raphael
Boumsong in the 24th and 39th minutes respectively.
Anyansi said on the club's website "Our performance in this Federation
Cup tournament is proof that our hard work is not in vain. It is also
proof that on a level playing field, with good officiating, we have the
right blend of coaches and players to do very well."
"This victory over Sharks means we are on course to defend the
Federation Cup title and it tells a lot about the pedigree of our club
and how consistent we have been. Now the team just needs to carry the
passion and commitment they have shown in this Cup tournament into the
Glo Premier League that resumes this weekend."
He however was quick to stress that the players must not get
carried away by their Cup form because the road ahead is fraught with
tougher challenges. He called for focus and a renewed commitment to the
games ahead.
"Of course there might be a tendency to relax and imagine that
because we are doing well in the Federation Cup, all is now well," he
said. "We cannot do that, not at all."
"The determination to succeed must even be intensified from this
point because by reaching this stage of the competition, we have sent a
message to other teams to prepare harder for us. So it is important that
we remain very focused and keep working hard.
"Again, I must congratulate the players and coaches for a job
well done and commend the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) for
organizing a great Federation Cup tournament so far."
Enyimba play Giwa FC in the semi-final on Thursday, July 31 in Abeokuta.
