Just when it looked as though Thibaut Courtois would be Chelsea's long-term first-choice keeper, the London club surprised
everyone by not assigning the Belgian a squad number. At least he does not
appear in the squad list posted on the club's official website.
The reason for Courtois' absence isn't yet known, but it
immediately set off the rumour mill on social networks.
Other players who weren't given a squad number were Lukaku,
Moses, Bertrand, Oriol and Marin, who all just happen to be transfer-listed.
The Belgian striker is close to completing a season-long loan move to Everton,
whilst the Nigerian is just one step away from becoming West Ham's newest
recruit.
This situation has given rise to all kinds of speculation
that the young keeper is on his way out of the club. One of the conditions that
Courtois gave Chelsea to not push through a move
away from Stamford
Bridge was that he would
be José Mourinho's first-choice keeper, something that would have seen Cech
leave the club.
However, the veteran Czech keeper has expressed his interest
in staying on in London.
He is not ready to warm the bench and will do everything in his power to
compete with the Belgian.
This unexpected turn of events could see the Belgian
sent out on loan again in an attempt to avoid a goalkeeping dispute similar to
the one that Mourinho suffered with Casillas and Diego López at Real Madrid.
