Nigerian Premier League: Enyimba's Boumsong Relieved After Ending Goal Drought Versus Sharks

Raphael Boumsong is one happy Cameroonian after ending his goal drought during Enyimba's Federation Cup 2-0 quarter-final victory over Sharks.
The forward who joined Enyimba from El Kanemi Warriors after finishing the 2012/2013 football season as the highest goalscorer for the Maiduguri side had struggled to replicate his deadly form for The Elephants due to injury.
But since recovering and featuring mainly as a substitute, Boumsong has not hit the back of the net. As his form peaked and he earned places in the starting line-ups, his lack of goalscoring continued.
During a conversation with EnyimbaFC.net five months ago, Boumsong admitted he was anxious to repay Enyimba's faith in him by scoring goals. He said the club had stood by him in his low moments and he was desperate not to let them down.
"I think about it, that I have to score," he had said. "But I know the time will come and I will keep working hard until that day comes."
Little had he known then that day day was 150 days away.
"I have always wanted to show myself, to prove myself on the big stage and to play with the best players. Enyimba has given me all that and it is a dream come true for me, to finally score a goal," he said.
"For me now the hard work continues because I don't want this to be my only goal. I want to score more goals. Enyimba is a big club with very good players who play in my position, I have to score to keep myself in the team."
"The journey for me in Nigeria has been good but I want it to be better. I played in the CAF Champions League with Gazelle FC but I want to play on the continent with Enyimba, so I have to help them win a title, then I can achieve my dreams more."
The second round exit of the two-time winners from the tournament this year hurt Boumsong a lot. "I was denied a great opportunity," he rued.
"I wanted to play in that competition. I wanted to win. I hoped for the team to beat the Malians so we can progress and I can have the time to play but it did not happen and it pained me, pained me a lot."
