13-YEAR-OLD Girl Sets Baseball Record
A 13-YEAR-OLD girl has challenged the best baseball pitcher on the planet to an unlikely “pitch-off” after leading her team to the Little League World Series.
Teenager Mo’ne Davis challenged Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw after pitching a complete shutout (a scoreless game) for her Philadelphia side, the Taney Dragons.
Kershaw is widely seen as the world’s best pitcher — he has a 14-2 win-loss record this season and an earned run average of 1.78. If those numbers mean nothing to you, trust us, they’re absurdly excellent.
Kershaw might be a little fuzzy on the rules of Davis’s challenge, but he isn’t backing down.
“Hey Mo’ne, just wanted to say congratulations on making it Williamsport (the venue for the Little League World Series),” Kershaw said.
“That’s awesome, such a cool thing for you to get to do. Such a fun opportunity, and I heard you’re ready for a pitch-off. I don’t know exactly what that means, but I’m prepared. I’m ready for whenever you can make it out to LA, just let me know.”
