Ronaldo and the €300 million forward line
Carlo Ancelotti will start out with his most potent attacking force against Sevilla with the first title of the season in play on Tuesday night. The injury doubt over Ronaldo and the fact that Karim Benzema and James Rodríguez are yet to play a minute during the pre-season will not prevent the coach from playing his expensive foursome.
Real Madrid go to the Cardiff City Stadium with one of the most attacking sides in football history. If the BBC trio was thought to be lethal last season, when you add the signing of Rodriguez to the threesome made up by CR7, Gareth Bale and Benzema, it can only have goals written all over it.
Together they make up an attack valued at around €300 million. Expensive yes, but also absolutely lethal and the expectation has been raised to enormous levels for Madrid fans ahead of the Sevilla game.
Ancelotti will not wait to plunge Rodriguez straight into his side. The Colombian will show off in Cardiff his recently won Golden Boot from the World Cup and he will look to quickly build an understanding with the front three. The Italian coach will also have to reveal what tactical changes he will make to take advantage of such an array of talents.
Ronaldo will also be available after a summer of doubts over the state of his knee. It appears the holiday period has been enough to reduce any pain he was feeling and he should start the game.
