ON the face of it, 55.48 seconds is a pretty rubbish time for a 200-metre sprint.
Then again, it’s somewhat more impressive when the athlete in
question is a retired 95-year-old British dentist who looked barely out
of breath after his lap around the indoor circuit.
Charles Eugster lived up to his tag as the world’s fittest OAP after
breaking the record for the over-95 age group at the British Masters
Indoor Championships meet in London by 2.4 seconds.
A Youtube video of his run has attracted nearly 400,000 views after
being posted by Silver Grey Sports Club, an over-50s group which
promotes taking part in extreme and adventure sports.
For his part, Eugster was somewhat chuffed with his performance and subsequent media appearances.
