The Indians will have a huge advantage over Australia in ­tomorrow’s World Cup semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Thanks to their massive legion of fans, the reigning World Cup champions will effectively be playing in front of a home crowd.
All tickets for the match sold out weeks ago, with Indian fans claiming they will have a 70/30 edge over Australian supporters, it has been reported.
Led by the Swami Army’s battalions of dhol drummers, Indian supporters can convert any Australian venue into a mini Mumbai.
There are actually two armies, with a rival squad spelling its name “Swamy”. Both claim to be the first and true army, but coexist happily.
Swami Army organiser Gurnam Singh will be among thousands of his countrymen at the SCG’s Gate E for a Bollywood-style dance performance, plus “something big” that the army declined to reveal.
SCG staff who have witnessed all manner of international crowd ­behaviour are astonished by the fanaticism from the Indian supporters. “They’ve been on Driver Ave outside the ground all week,” said SCG communications director Phillip Heads.
