Lionel Messi's penalty against Elche on Saturday has put him the highest league scorer in Europe for the 2014-15 season.
The Argentine struck in the 31st minute of the Blaugrana's clash at the
Estadio Municipal de Ipurua - his 31st goal of the Liga season and one
more than Ronaldo.
Messi has now scored 16 league goals in 2015
alone - while Ronaldo, who was 13 strikes ahead of his great rival back
in November, only has five.
Ronaldo is the current
joint-holder of the European Golden Shoe, together with Luis Suarez. The
Portuguese has been Europe's top-scorer on three occasions, the same
number as Messi.
The Barcelona star has 42 goals in all competitions this season from 39 games.
