UCL : What They Said After

*Neuer:  Bayern will attack’: Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer insists his team are not going to the Camp Nou on Wednesday night to try and defend. The Bavarians take on Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final first leg clash having suffered a number of key injuries in the lead-up to the game, but Neuer remains confident of putting on a good performance. “We know how important this match is but we are the German champions and the Champions League is still very much up for grabs,” he told reporters. “We’ve played very well in the competition this season while there’s a mutual respect between Barca and us, so I’m sure we’ll put in a top display. “Bayern will not be going there to sit back as we want to show who we are and go out to attack. It’s vital we get a goal. “The way we set up and how many defenders we play is not important because what matters is our attitude. We won’t simply defend. “I’m sure some of the best players in the world are going to feature in this match.”
*Arda: Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan believes Dani Carvajal should have been sent off Carvajal had already received one yellow card when he brought down Carlos Tevez in the box to concede a penalty, yet despite protests from Juve players he was not even booked by referee Martin Atkinson in Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus. Carvajal had already received one yellow card when he brought down Carlos Tevez in the box to concede a penalty, yet despite protests from Juve players he was not even booked by referee Martin Atkinson.“I was shown a second yellow card. With Carvajal is the referee applying the same rules?” he asked on his official Twitter account.
*Keane and Scholes slam Bale display- Roy Keane and Paul Scholes have slammed Gareth Bale’s performance in Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Juventus. The former Manchester United teammates appeared as pundits on ITV’s coverage of the semi-final first leg clash in Turin, with Keane leading the criticism of the Welshman’s display. “Credit to both teams as they were both going for it, but it’s very difficult when you are playing with 10 men because Gareth Bale did not show up tonight,” he claimed. Keane’s thoughts were echoed by Paul Scholes, who also felt Bale had let his Madrid teammates down. “[Luka] Modric was a big miss for Real Madrid. Bale never once tried to take his man on. He just whipped the ball in and it was food and drink for the Juventus defence,” declared Scholes.
*Allegri ‘pleased’ with Juve display- Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri admitted he was pleased with his team’s performance in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat of Real Madrid. Goals from Alvaro Morata and Carlos Tevez in between a Cristiano Ronaldo header means the Serie A outfit take a slender advantage to Madrid for the return leg. “I’d say I’m pleased with the performance as technically it was a great game, even if I think we can do better,” Allegri told reporters.“I’d say everyone was involved in the match, defending and attacking, while [Stefano] Sturaro only arrived three months ago and he’s grown a lot, which is also great credit to the club.” The 47-year-old said he was aware Juve face an extremely difficult trip to Spain and feels his team will need to score at least a goal at the Santiago Bernabeu to make it to the final in Berlin.
“I think if we want to make the final we’ve got to deliver a masterpiece in Madrid. We’ve laid the foundations and my players showed great personality, effort and determination.
“[Roberto] Pereyra has the legs and he’s fast. If we’d needed him he’d have come in handy but [Arturo] Vidal gave me more guarantees to hurt them in the middle and force Madrid out wide.
