Manchester City are on the verge of losing six homegrown
players at the end of the season, with Joloen Lescott, Micah Richards, James
Milner and Jack Rodwell, along with Third-choice keeper Richard Wright and
homegrown defender Dedryck Boyata, all on their way out of the club.
And if all of them depart, that will leave only Joe Hart and
Gael Clichy — an Arsenal product — as the only players in Manuel Pellegrini’s
current 25-man squad eligible to be classed as “homegrown”.
Premier League clubs can register no more than 17 foreign
players over the age of 21 — City currently have 15.
The City boss admitted it was difficult to bring English
players in, because of the premium on their transfers.
