Having retained the African Championship trophy in a six nation qualifier held in Nairobi, Kenya that now sets them on the road for the World Team Cup billed for Holland in May, Nigeria’s Wheelchair Tennis team have requested to be camped in Ibadan where they hope to have a good preparation for action at the world stage.
Nigeria’s two-man team of Wasiu Yusuf and Alex Adewale defeated their counterparts yet again to pick Africa’s sole ticket to the final round in what is known as the Para- athletes own version of the Davies Cup.
There is the belief that Ibadan would serve the players well given that they can camp at the Liberty Stadium Hostel and then make use of facilities at the nearby Ibadan Recreation Club.
Coach Tarmena said “Despite the fact that players of the other countries had been out their in the world training and improving on their technique and style, we were still able to beat them to pick Africa’s sole ticket to the world team cup.
Our win was made possible by the National Sports Commission, NSC that gave the support which enabled us to go to Kenya as well as the strenuous training we put in. I must not also forget the determination on the part of the players to win.”
