The world’s 50 most marketable athletes 2014 list, compiled by SportsPro magazine, has been released, with Scott replacing Ellyse Perry as the only featured Australian.

The reasoning behind his marketable status: his enormous potential has finally taken him from the “next big thing” to the pinnacle of golf and he’s well-liked by sponsors for his “articulacy, humble demeanour and athletic appearance.”
His rise has seen him overtake Rory McIlory as the leading golfer in the list, while American young gun Jordan Spieth has also shot past McIlroy to be the second most marketable figure in the sport.

British Formula One star Lewis Hamilton has fended off the likes of Usain Bolt, Christiano Ronaldo and Virat Kohli to claim the title of the planet’s most marketable athlete.
On the back of his “maturing” nature, his relationship with Nicole Scherzinger, over two million twitter followers and Formula One’s increasingly vast global market, the 29-year-old has risen from number seven on the 2013 list.

Criteria for the list includes marketing potential over the next three years based on value for money, age, home market, charisma, willingness to be marketed and crossover appeal.
Value for money and age mean the likes of Roger Federer and David Beckham miss the cut.
In fact, Scott is the third oldest in the list at 33.
Sydney Roosters NRL star Sonny Bill Williams sneaks in at 41st place.
Americans dominate the top 50 with 19 athletes, while 37 men and 13 women make up the list.
