Tennis:Mirka Backs Federer’s Return

ROGER Federer’s decision to return to tennis a week after the birth of his second set of twins has the full support of his wife Mirka. And don’t expect his schedule to change much now that he has four kids.
Speaking in Rome yesterday, Federer said that when the boys were born earlier than expected he consulted with his wife and team “and they all said I should quickly come and play here.”
“So I was like, ‘OK, if you don’t want me around I’ll go away.’”
The 32-year-old Federer said “there will be a long time without any traveling after the tennis is over, so I’m looking forward to the next couple of years now.”
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal admitted he was relishing one of the biggest annual changes in clay-court tennis when he begins play at sea-level at the Rome Masters today, just days after winning at altitude in Madrid.
“Yes it’s a big change, but when you are winning it is a lot easier,” said the defending champion. “You always need time to adjust. It’s nothing crazy, you must work on how you hit the ball. The ball flies more in Madrid and you have less control. In Rome you have to hit harder.”
