Lionel Messi for Manchester City! Yes, it’s unlikely to
happen but some tabloids are floating the possibility of mega-rich and
possible soon-to-be EPL champions City breaking the world-record
transfer fee to land the Argentinian superstar.
With the
Fair Play rules obviously of little consequence, City are reportedly
planning a $A300 million offer to test Barcelona’s resolve. The Mirror first reported interest a couple of weeks ago but as Messi’s contract issues grow more and more sticky, The Guardian has come out this week to suggest it’s not as far fetched as some might think.
Messi reportedly has placed a few stipulations about staying long, long term.
One of those is that he wants national teammate Sergio Aguero to join him at Camp Nou next season.
Another is that goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto stays.
And add to that requests for a wage of upwards of $A30 million a year and there is some serious bargaining still to take place.
