Nigeria U-20 women team, Falconets will play its group match in the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup against England on Wednesday.
The Nigerian girls need just a point to qualify for the
quarter-finals. A 2-1 win over Korea Republic and an earlier 1-1 draw
with Mexico meant the women sit top of their group
However, former Falcons coach, James Peters believes the team will reach the final of the tournament.
“I’m sure that these girls will go all the way to the final as they did in 2010,” he told brilafm.
Nigeria ’s best performance at the competition was a 2-0 loss to
Germany at the 2010 final, but Peter admonishes they should not
underrate their opponents.
He said: “All I want them to do is, don’t underrate, be focused and
move to the next stage, it’s when we get to the next stage of the
competition that is when the World Cup proper would have started. “
Meanwhile, the team arrived in Edmonton, Canada on Monday ahead of
its last group match. Nigeria played its first two
matches against Mexico and Korea Republic in Moncton.
Team head coach, Peter Dedevbo said we must prepare well and be ready for the last group match.
“The English team is good to have qualified and thus we must
adequately prepare. I aim is to get a win against England.”
Nigeria needs at least a draw against England to top Group C and qualify for the knock out stage.
