*Will play in goal in the Supercup
Carlo Ancelotti has taken his decision regarding who will be
the starting goalkeeper next season – Iker Casillas. According to what has
already been revealed by Radio MARCA, the Real Madrid captain will get his
starter status back for the next campaign. Even with the imminent arrival of
newbie shotstopper Keylor Navas, the Italian manager has decided that Iker is
the man to trust between the sticks.
The Spaniard has been informed by Ancelotti and his men that
he will be the club's number one keeper next season, starting with the European
Supercup against Sevilla to be played on 12th August in Cardiff.
Just a few days ago, Ancelotti stated that he hadn't reached
a decision regarding who would be the starting goalkeeper. It has only taken 45
minutes watching Casillas play against Roma for him to make up his mind.
Ever since Diego López was signed by Mourinho's Real in
January, 2013, the debate over who should be the club's number one keeper has
never ended. Mourinho was quite clear that the job was for Diego López, but
with Ancelotti's arrival, things were up in the air again. Finally, with Keylor
Navas' arrival and Carlos' renewed faith in Iker, there was nowhere for Diego
López to go but out the door.
