The Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) says it has
reached mutual understanding on terms of settlement of the outstanding
indebtedness awarded to former Super Eagles Assistant Coach, Sylvanus Okpalla,
by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in Lausanne.
The former international and ex- Super Eagles assistant
coach had dragged the board of the NFF to CAS for violating terms of his
engagement as a staff of the national team. Okpalla was sacked shortly after the African
Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013 but got CAS judgement which ordered the
federation to pay him all his outstanding salaries up to the time he was
relieved of the Super Eagles job.
Musa Amadu, General secretary of NFF confirmed the
development after a meeting with the former national U-20 captain and Nigeria’s
1980 winning Cup of Nations team member, revealed that the
federation has commenced payment in installments as agreed with Okpala.
“Okpala has always been a member of the Nigerian football
family and we hold him in a high esteem. Obviously he is always welcomed at the
Glass House and discussed matters of interest particularly as it affects the
redemption of his monies as awarded by CAS. I must say that every thing is
going on fine. We have agreed as to how the money will be paid instalmentally
and we have already begun to implement it. Obviously he came to show
appreciation to the fact that the federation has obeyed the terms we agreed in
principle.” he added
