NUGA seeks N200m for 2015 World University Games

The Nigeria University Games Association, NUGA, it would requireN200 million for Nigeria’s participation in the 28th World University Games in GWamgju South Korea IN July.
NUGA secretary Bola Orodele aid in an interview in Lagos that the money would ensure qualifiers are held to pick the best athletes and teams, camping and preparations and participation in the Games.
According to him, Nigeria will take part in athletics, taekwondo, judo while the country is on standby for two team sports, football and basketball for men. “Nigeria has been placed standby for those team sports and we intend to attend the Heads of Delegates meeting in April in the host city where decision would be made on our application,” he stated. Angola and Mozambique are selected from Africa basketball men with Nigeria on the reserve list while Mozambique and Uganda are selected in the women category. In the football event, South Africa men and women have the spots for Africa in while Namibia and Nigeria are on the reserve list.
Orodele revealed that NUGA had made contacts with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN in respect of getting the athletics team ready. “We are also waiting for response from a company to sponsor our football competition where we expect to pick players for the games. We are also making an appeal to corporate Nigeria and philanthropists for assistance to enable us take part in the games,” he stated
