Australia coach Alen Stajcic says the heartbreaking final cuts to his Women's
World Cup squad will leave a strong and determined group ahead of next
month's tournament.
Stajcic announces his 23-woman squad on
Tuesday, saying leaving talented players at home is one of the toughest
parts of being boss of the Australian women's soccer team.
It was reported that lplayers like Caitlin Foord, Kat Gorry, Emily Van Egmond and Samantha Kerr will
all hear their names called, alongside experienced Matildas Lisa De
Vanna, Kate Gill and LydiaWilliams.
Stajcic, who steered the Matildas to be runners-up at the 2014 Asian Cup, said he would end up with a talented and hungry squad.
"It's certainly not a nice part of the job, doing this final cut," he said.
"But we can really pick 23 good players who have committed a lot, been dedicated and determined."
Australia's World Cup campaign begins against heavyweights United States on June 8 in Winnipeg. Nigeria and Sweden are other group opponents.
