Gyan Donates $30,000 to Black Queens

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan announced a $30,000 cash prize to the Black Queens for winning the 2015 All Africa Games at a ceremony to mark his 30th birthday on Saturday.
The all-time leading scorer for the Black Stars was redeeming a pledge he made to the team before they embarked on their campaign in Congo Brazzaville.
Gyan donated $10,000 to the female national team upon being made aware of a serious financial difficulty facing the side before they opened their campaign against South Africa which eventually ended in a goalless draw.
The Black Queens needed lady luck to sail through to the semi finals after winning a drawing of lots contest against South Africa having finished the group with a similar number of points and goal difference after drawing 1-1 with Cameroon in their other and final group game.
Ghana was in a group of three teams following the withdrawal of Egypt.
Black Queens captain Mercy Myles had made a public declaration that the $10,000 donated to the team by Gyan was an immense motivational factor in their march to the finals having beaten Cote d'Ivoire 1-0 in the semi finals.
