What does $48m buy you
these days? Not a lot, if you’re Tottenham Hotspur. Just eight goals in
fact — with just one from open play. That’s what Spurs got with Roberto
Soldado.
And interim White Hart Lane boss Tim Sherwood has told the Spaniard it’s time to deliver.
Sherwood
reportedly sat down with Soldado ahead of Spurs’ Europa League
second-leg clash with FC Dnipro and told him this is his chance.
“Robbie knows his time’s come,” Sherwood said.
“We
know he’s a top player or he would not be at the club. Now’s the time
for one to ricochet in off his backside and he’ll be off on a run like
Adebayor has since I came in. It would be handy to have the two of them
scoring.
“It is a barren spell for a striker. Luis Suarez
is going through one at the moment and no-one is pointing any fingers
as Liverpool are winning.”
Hmm, that might also be
because the Uruguayan is also now topping the assists column. Not
scoring is one thing; not providing anything in attack is something
else.
