Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning back-heeled equaliser against Valencia didn't just serve to salvage a miraculous point which could be crucial for Real's hopes of lifting the title. It also edged the Portuguese ace clear in the race for the European Golden Shoe.Following Sunday's strike, Ronaldo now has 50 goals in all competitions this season and 31 in 'La Liga', which puts him out in front in the ranking of the top marksmen in leagues across Europe, with 62 points. However, his closest challenger, Liverpool's Luis Suárez, could yet draw level or surpass CR7 if he gets on the scoresheet in tonight's meeting with Crystal Palace.
Two other players from 'La Liga', Leo Messi (28 goals, 56 points) and Diego Costa (27 and 54), lie third and fourth in the reckoning, while Spanish forward Jonathan Soriano rounds off the top 5. The Red Bull Salzburg star is the only player who currently has as many goals as Ronaldo, but the coefficient system in place means each of his 31 strikes is only worth 1.5 points, so he has 46.5 points in all.
