Coach Joe
Erico, the former Supper Eagles Assistant Coach, has said it is a positive
development for the game in the country, Stephen Keshi’s decision to including
some of players of the national under-17 team, Golden Eaglets, in the home based senior national team, now
preparing which to represent the country in the African Nations Championship
CHAN, which is scheduled to hold in South Africa next year
CHAN, which
will hold between January and end February 2014, is open players in the domestic African league. Nigeria,
Ghana, Ivory Coast are countries favoured to win the coveted cup.
Erico, said
it was a thing of joy to see Keshi call up Kelechi Ihenacho, goalkeeper
Alampasu and others for the CHAN challenge, adding that “his move would lift
the
spirit of the team and make it more competitive.
He pointed
out that contrary to the belief being expressed in some quarters that CHAN
could serve as a distraction for the World Cup, it will enhance the competition
in the team ahead the World Cup in June next year. “I don’t think the
championship will derail Keshi’s World Cup plans, rather it will give him an
opportunity to choose from the array of stars”, he stated.
“Keshi is
going to make a good CHAN squad with the inclusion of these young players. But
I must appeal to Nigerians not to expect too much from the players. They are
going there for exposure. If they put their acts together, they will perform
well,” he added
