CHAN: Sanusi Hopeful Eagles Can Win Cup

Sanusi Mohammed, the Nigeria Football Federation Director of Competitions is confident that the Super Eagles could win the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa scheduled from January11 to February 1.
Sanusi, who spoke in an interview, said Nigeria was not going to South Africa to merely participate but would do so to win. He based his hopes on appreciable good preparation done by the team and enthusiasm and high standard achieved in the build up.
Nigeria's Super Eagles would be making their debut in the competition, following failure in past two editions. The maiden edition was held in the Ivory Coast in 2009 with D.R.Congo emerging the as winners after defeating Ghana Black Stars 2-0 in the final While the second edition, which was hosted by Morocco was won by Tunisia via a 3-0 spanking of Angola
Despite the fact that key  players are not available to coach Stephen Keshi for the championship, Mohammed, was optimistic that this would not affect the team so much, as capable hands have been brought in. “absence of some of the key players would not affect the team because Keshi has brought in replacements for them.
Meanwhile the Eagles meet  the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia in a friendly match  on Saturday in Abuja as part of final preparations.
The Super Eagles who are drawn in Group with A alongside Mali, Mozambique and host South Africa with the group games billed in Cape Town. They will play their first tie of the tournament against Mali on Jan. 11, take on Mozambique on January 15 and engage the host in the last group tie on the 19th 
CHAN is the competition for players in different African leagues.
