Boxing authorities in Zambia have arranged a
tournament with Kenyan boxers to fix a team to compete in this year's
Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Friday.
Zambia has picked six amateur boxers to represent the country at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to be held from July 23 to Aug. 3.
Zambia Amateur Boxing Federation president Thomas Chileshe said they
picked on the Kenyans because of their experience, adding that Kenyans
were more talented.
"It is important that we fight opponents like Kenyan boxers, who are
technically strong. Normally when we go out to fight these are the
opponents we meet. We need to expose boxers and we know which countries
can give us tough competitions," he was quoted as saying by the paper.
The boxing chief expressed confidence that the international
tournament will help the boxers shape up for the Commonwealth Games but
could not disclose when the bout will be held.
Kenya are rated first on the continent by the International Amateur Boxing Association, according to Daily Mail.
