The forward had spoken of his desire to score goals ahead of
the visit of the Promise Keepers and he was true to his word when he raced onto
a lose ball inside the box to give his side the opener in the tenth minute.
He came close to doubling his tally before the break but was
eventually replaced by Cameroonian Raphael Bussong who was making his debut for
The Elephants.
Bashir said "I'm pleased with the win
because it helps us a lot as we try to climb higher on the table. More so it is
against the team at the top so it is a good win for us and I am very happy to
be the goalscorer.
"It is my first goal in the Premier League this season
and I'm very pleased. Hopefully I can carry on scoring. It's something I need
to start doing more often because we are not in a very good position and I need
to play my part to make sure we win as much games as possible."
Bashir and his teammates earned their second victory of the
season and their first win at home since the one nil defeat to Abia Warriors.
"I think this game will help boost the confidence of
the team and we can carry on playing well and scoring goals. My hope too is to
be given more opportunities so I can always prove myself as a good
striker," Bashir said.
The former ABS star was the most exciting player at the
2013/2014 Pre-Season Tournament in Abuja,
netting four goals in three games but he has struggled to establish himself
since the start of the season.
The faith Coach Imama Amapakabo has in the forward will certainly help him
regain his fine form in the coming games ahead as Enyimba continue their fight
to get out of the bottom half of the table.
