Carlo Ancelotti is already thinking ahead to next season and
is more concerned with Ángel di María staying at the club than he is with new
signings or other departures. The Argentine already has offers which would
include a significant pay rise, but Carletto does not want to see one of his
preferred players on his way out of the Bernabéu.
"Don't go Ángel" is the general reaction within
the Real Madrid dressing room. Not just from Ancelotti who has always backed
his player to the hilt, but also from some of the heavyweights within the team
including Cristiano Ronaldo, who in no way wants his preferred midfield partner
to leave Los Blancos.
The midfielder will touch down some time in the next few
hours in Rosario, where he will rest for a few days before joining up with the
Argentina squad. He aims to know where he will be playing next season before
the World Cup kicks off. The next few weeks could prove crucial.
The teams pushing the hardest to sign him are French clubs
PSG and Monaco, Premier League outfits Arsenal, City and United, and Serie A
side Juventus. In the case of a bidding war, offers on the table could reach
the €50m mark, with the midfielder earning around €7m, almost twice his salary
at Real.
Winning the Spanish Cup/Champions League double could give Ancelotti
the power to dig his heels in over Di María and declare that the midfielder is
going nowhere under any circumstances, something that would involve negotiating
a new deal for the midfielder, one with a significant pay rise.
