Ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,
Scotland, Nigeria’s Senate President, David Mark, has again, urged
athletes and officials to step up their training in order to win laurels
and bring Honour to the nation.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games is scheduled to hold between July 23 and August 03, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.
To achieve the feat, Mark told them to ensure early preparation and adequate training with modern sporting facilities.
Speaking when the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC),
Sani Ndanusa briefed him on the country’s participation towards the
forthcoming games, Mark noted that there is no magic or luck to success
in any sporting activities but good training and early perpetration .
He stated: “Nigeria has all it takes to excel in sporting competition
any where in the world. All we need to do is to improve our facilities
and keep training our athletes and officials.
“I have read in the media that funding is likely to hamper our
effective participation in the Games. We must as government and people
agree to fund and take sports seriously .
“Sports is no longer just for entertainment but a phenomenon of
measuring nation’s economic and socio- political strength, stability and
developments.
Earlier, the President of NOC, promised that Nigeria would excel in
the Games pointing out that the committee is concentrating on military
and paramilitary sports men and women who have demonstrated commitment
and potential to excel.
