Chelsea
manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he has no plans to protect Diego
Costa ahead of the traditionally hectic festive period.
The Brazil-born Spain international has struggled with fitness at times this season, despite making an outstanding start to his Premier League career.
Costa has scored 10 goals already this term and is one booking away from a one-game suspension, but Mourinho is unconcerned.
'The Christmas period is new for him,' said Mourinho. 'He has worked with a club physio even during the international break. He is on four bookings but will I protect him? No.
'At the moment we feel he is free of his old injury. Costa has four yellow cards but no way will I rest him, if he gets a fifth, he gets a fifth. The next match is always the most important.'
