French Open: Serena Hits Top Gear

Serena Williams storms into semi-finals after straight set demolition of Sara Errani
Williams has charged into the French Open semi-finals, shrugging off first-week lethargy with a brutal quarter-final demolition of Sara Errani.
The world No. 1 needed only 65 minutes to dispatch the Italian 17th seed 6-1 6-3 to reach her 27th grand slam semi-final and fourth at Roland Garros.
The champion here in 2002 and ‘12, Williams struggled through the first four rounds, needing three sets against Anna-Lena Friedsam, Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens.
It was different story against overwhelmed Errani as Williams preyed on the right-hander’s feeble serve.

Errani’s delivery serve was embarrassingly ineffective — from start to finish.
The Italian lost serve three times in the first set as Williams monstered first and — especially — second balls.
Having lost the first set in 27 minutes — it would have been even faster if not for an inexplicable Williams’ concentration lapse for a rare droppe serve — Errani dug in during the second.
But her revival was more a consequence of Williams’ waywardness than her own contribution.
Inevitably, Errani blundered twice more on serve in the second set as Williams found ominous rhythm.
