Marcelo,Is A Real Talisman

Marcelo may well be the only truly indispensable member of Rafa Benítez's 23-man squad. Not just because there is no like-for-like replacement for the Brazilian, but because of everything he contributes on the pitch.
The marauding left-back is key to Real Madrid's prospects of winning things this season. You only have to take a cursory look at the stats to see how important he is. 'Los Blancos' haven't lost in the league with Marcelo in their ranks since succumbing 2-1 to Barcelona at the Camp Nou on 22nd March.
In this eight-month period, Marcelo has made 19 La Liga appearances, with Real Madrid triumphing in 15 of those matches and drawing four. In other words, they haven't come unstuck in a domestic fixture with the Brazil international in the side for 238 days.
If we take into account all competitions, the only blot on Marcelo's copybook is the Champions League semi-final first-leg loss to Juventus in Turin. That is the 27-year-old's only defeat at club level in 25 games. What's more, it is surely no coincidence that in the first match that the left-back missed through injury this season, Real Madrid's unbeaten start to the campaign was ended by Sevilla at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.
