Former Super Eagles striker, Jonathan Akpoborie, has reminded the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, of the need to organise more quality friendly matches for the national team before the World Cup in Brazil next year.
Akpoborie, who acknowledged that the friendly game against Italy in London met his expectation, insists that such grade A matches would not only expose the team, but instill the needed confidence in the players especially the home based ones who meet final selection criteria of the coaches.
According to him, “this period is not the time to over celebrate the little success we have achieved, but having qualified for the World Cup, we must make it a sense of duty to make an impact in the competition.
“I am impressed with the result we played with Italy but the NFF must organise more of such games. We are likely to be in a group having more South American countries. So NFF can organise for the team to play about two matches against South American countries from and may be one teams from Europe. By so doing we could spring a surprise at the World Cup, he concluded.
