Gov. Uduaghan Urged to fulfill promise on Governors Cup for Schools

The lethargic way and manner in which the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, (CON), has not fulfilled a heart warming promise he made to all the secondary schools and colleges in the state before the kick off of the maiden edition of the 2013 Delta Schools governor's Cup football competition, is giving Sports men and women in the country some headache and a lot of concern.
According to a former footballer and high jumper, Reverend John Okolie, Governor Uduaghan promised to sponsor both the winners of the secondary schools version and Primary school version of the competition to a foreign trip.
Former Green Eagles skipper, Chairman Christian Chukwu, ex-Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, ex- national under-17 Glden Eaglets captain, Wilson Oruma and a host of others footballers were present at the opening ceremony held at the Ultra modern Warri township Stadium,.In the final of the secondary schools’ version of the soccer championship. On May 28, Sparkling Comprehensive Secondary School, Oguwashi-Ukwu, defeated Alegbo Secondary School, Efurun by a lone goal to emerge champions.
In view of this, Reverend Okolie has made a passionate appeal to the Governor to fulfill his promise to Comprehensive Secondary School, Oguwashi-Ukwu, in the interest of peace and fair-play
According to Reverend Okolie, a primary school, based in Warri which won the primary version of the competition had been sponsored to their own trip by governor Uduaghan while that of Comprehensive Secondary School, Oguwashi-Ukwu is still pending.
In view of this, Reverend Okolie, wants the Delta State Governor to act in the interest of justice and promotion sports in the state. Reverend Okolie who spoke in a chat with our sports corespondent in Ogwashi-Ukwu in Aniocha South L.G.A. Of Delta State recently, said “it is very unusual for a state governor to make a promise during his own competition and renege on it.”
