Akpoborie, who acknowledged that the friendly game against Italy in London met his expectation, insists that such grade A matches would not only expose the team, but instill the needed confidence in the players especially the home based ones who may meet final selection criteria of the coaches.
According to him, “this period is not the time to over celebrate the little success we have achieved, but having qualified for the World Cup, we must make it a sense of duty to make an impact in the competition.
“I am impressed with the result we had against Italy but the NFF must organise more of such games. We are likely to be in a group having more South American countries. So NFF can organise for the team to play about two matches against South American countries and may be one team from Europe. By so doing we could spring a surprise at the World Cup,” he concluded. Super Eagles are among five countries representing Africa in the Mundiale.
