Beyonce wows Video Music Awards with epic closing number
“MTV... welcome to my world!” shouted a fired-up Beyonce as she launched into an epic 20-minute closing number that wowed the audience at the Video Music Awards in Los Angeles today.
Beyonce was joined onstage by her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay Z, who proudly declared her “the greatest living entertainer”.
The family was onstage together as Beyonce accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award.
A teary-eyed Beyonce thanked her fans and told her husband and daughter she loved them.
Miley Cyrus won Video of the Year with her global hit Wrecking Ball. But unlike last year’s VMAs, when Cyrus copped a chorus of criticism for her overtly sexual performance on stage, this time she took a back seat by sending her guest, who said he was homeless, onstage to collect her award.
Hopes were high for all the Aussies nominated.
Rapper Iggy Azalea was up for seven awards - most equal with Beyonce.
5 Seconds of Summer were hot favourites in the Artist to Watch category, and Sia’s popular video Chandelier seemed like a shoo-in for Video of the Year.
But none of them managed to take home a Moonman in these categories, and there were only a few “almost” and “sort-of” awards to keep the Aussie fans happy.
