Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie says reports
that ex-France captain Marcel Desailly would take up a position as a
scout for the Black Stars during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations are
false.
According to a publication by the state-owned Graphic Sports on
Tuesday, Desailly was going to be part of Avram Grant’s technical team.
The story was attributed to former Ghana FA chairman Alhaji MND Jawula
who was at a function where Desailly was honoured on Friday night in
Accra.
But Afriyie said Jawula was only making a suggestion to the Ghana FA to consider but nothing concrete has been decided.
He explained: “I don’t know where this story is coming from. This was
just a suggestion from Lepowura MND Jawula at the unveiling of Marcel
Desailly’s statue. Why can’t people report accurately.”
Afriyie also confirmed that Desailly turned down the Black Stars coaching job after Kwesi Appiah was sacked in September.
