Former NEPA FC of Lagos captain, Francis Tandoh, has tipped the Super Falcons of Nigeria to shine in this year’s FIFA Women World Cup finals holding in Canada in June.
The
ex attacking midfielder, who spoke Lagos recently, is highly confident that the
Super Falcons will be one of the two team that would emerge from their Group
despite the high rating enjoyed by United States, Sweden and Australia. Tandoh
who based his view on the quality of players that compose Falcons, noted that
the team has rising talents intermixed by those with experience.
According
to him, “Nigeria
is a force to reckon with in women football; hence the country is highly rated
by FIFA.” He noted that
“Nigeria had
come close to FIFA Women World Cup glory in the past only to be eluded by the
element of luck. The
Last
year, the Super Falconets were on the ascendancy from the commencement of the FIFA
U-20 World Cup championship held in Canada scoring the fastest goal and
the second fastest goal in the history of the series. Tandoh however observed that to do well as he
foresees, the Nigerian team will require total concentration in the pre- world
cup build up and even during the competition proper. “That is what I admonish the
NFF to do for the team for favorable result this time around,” he stated,
pointing out that he is banking on the pair of Desire okparanozie and Azizat
Oshoala to do the damage to all their opponents for the Super Falcons to bring
joy to teeming Nigerian fans.
The
Falcons file out on June 8 in search of the title in Wnnipeg against Sweden and next face the United Australia on
June 12 while the last group tie come against the United States on June 16.
