Chukwuma Counting On Gen. Buhari To Make Sports Thrive

Former Nigeria Football Association chairman Chief Gabriel Chukwuma has said he is counting on Preside- elect General Muhammadu Buhari to churn out policies that would correct anomalies in the sector. “We need policies that provide level playing ground for all sports and guarantees good funding for sports federations and the National Sports Commission to execute their programmes” “A level playing ground in my opinion means that the president should ensure he appoints astute sports administrators, technocrats, and other officials are knowledgeable, have the interest and possess the will to work in the spo
“The new administration should endeavor to place sports high on it’s Agenda and ensure enough financial provisions in the Annual Appropriation Bill to cover both capital projects and recurrent needs.”  The Gabros F.C. proprietor welcomed the new administration’s anti corruption war. But to move forward here, he pointed out that sports needs auditing and cleansing, saying that doing this would seal up loop-holes in the system that breed corruption.
The president should also ensure that those he entrusts with the task of running sports do not goad him into focusing on football alone but develop sports in it’s totality. The practice has been that when top officials are appointed, they focus only on football. He should be careful not to appoint those who will talk to him only about football.”  “All Sports must be given equal attention because they all have potentials to win laurels and uplift the country’s image. I’m a football man but I will never support the government if it tries to focus on football alone because I have my respect and love for other sports,” he stated. “Beyond competition, sports generally have same attraction to people who either go for leisure and or for fitness. And with the potentials we posses in sports it is time to invest massively here to create employment and empower the youth and make it worthy of being adopted as a profession.”
