Brazil
boss Dunga has blamed his side’s Copa America defeat by Paraguay on a
virus which supposedly struck down 15 of his squad, limiting their
ability to train in the run up to the match.
Dunga told Globoesporte: It's no excuse, nor mitigating, but 15 players had a virus and had to limit their training. Today was a game where we needed speed and we did not have it.”
Goalkeeper Jefferson confirmed the existence of the virus, but said it could not be blamed for the defeat.
He said: I caught the virus. Everyone woke up with a headache, a fever, others with aches in the body. It was weird because it was everyone from one day to the next. This eventually affected several players. It was Wednesday to Thursday. Of course you cannot blame this as it did not affect much during the game."
