Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso believes that talk about a loss of national identity at German club Bayern Munich, is totally unjustified.
In an interview given to the Bavarian newspaper, 'Münchner Merku,' the 33-year-old former Liverpool man revealed that, "as someone who is directly involved, I can categorically say that the club's identity is not under threat. The core of the squad is German and it's up to the rest of us to adapt. Each and every one of us is doing just that".
Alonso is joined in Bayern's highly cosmopolitan squad by compatriots: Javi Martínez, Juan Bernat and Thiago Alcántara, as well as the Chilean, Arturo Vidal, all of whom are managed by the Spaniard, Josep Guardiola.
Speaking at the end of July, Guardiola sought to ease the fears of those who believe that the club is losing touch with its roots, "Bayern is, and will continue to be a German club for the next one hundred years. There's nothing to worry about".
