The National Council of Sports has at it’s meeting in Abuja has fixed November 23-December 3 2014 as dates for the 19th National Sports Festival, known as “Canaan Games” to take place in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, in South- South Nigeria.
The Council has also removed the age barrier for
participation in football. An amended festival clause provides for Rule7
(eligibility) of the NSF allowing participation for all ages categories but
subjected to maximum of only three professional football players for all teams
at the festival
The Rule also added seven optional sports Wushu Kunfu,
karate, golf, dart, kick boxing, rowing/canoeing and squash.optional from
which the local organizing committee is to confirm five.
Six venues were approved namely the, UJ Esuene Stadium,
University of Calabar, Cross River State University of Technology, Tinapa
Bisiness and Leissure Resort, Calabar Sports Club and College of Education
Akamkpa.
