Athletics head Coach in the Lagos State Grassroots Sports Project,  Uruemu Adu has called for an early release of the 2014 athletics programme by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN quoted Adu as saying in Lagos that the early release of the federation’s calendar would enable the state associations to plan their own activities for the year.
He expressed sadness over delays in the release of the 2014 calendar, saying the trend was “administratively unfriendly”.
“we had expected that the programme would have been issued by the second week of December, just about the same time AFN published it in 2012.
“It is the document that guides associations in planning ahead. The delay to me is anti- sports and should be reversed to enable us to move with the times,’’ Adu said.
He has also picked holes in the dates for the All Nigeria Cross Rivers Athletics Championship, which is expected to serve as platform for selection of Nigeria’s athletics contingent to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Adu said that if the athletics body would see to the immediate release of the programme, it would make it easy for states to key into the national programme.
Meanwhile as preparations continue, Nigerian athletes for the Commonwealth Games would return to their Abuja camping site on January 5 to continue their preparation for the Games.
The camping was temporarily suspended to allow the athletes to rejoin their families for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
