Bayelsa State Wins Gov. Dickson Wrestling Tourney


Host, Bayelsa State  placed first in the Governor Henry Seriake Dickson Wrestling Championships which was concluded in the State, capital Yenagoa, south- south Nigeria over the weekend. The state topped the championships with 13 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Delta State, still from the south zone, placed second with 5 gold, 6 silver and two bronze medals, while Plateau settled for the third place with three gold, 1 silver and two bronze medals.
Beesides topping the medals table, the host state’s female wrestlers  also
came tops in the freestyle category and second behind Delta State in the Greco Roman version.
Ondo State from south-west zone and Cross Rivers, south- south zone  were fourth and fifth respectively with 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals and 2 gold and 1silver and 3 bronze medals. In addition, the Most Valuable Wrestler and award was won by the host state’s Blessing Okorodudu . She had earlier emerged the Best Female Wrestler at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship held in Johannesburg in South Africa.
Similarly, Adekoroye Odunayo of Ondo state who emerged the best female wrestler; Emmanuel Oworie of Cross Rivers State won the best Greco Roman wrestler while Okpokori from Bayelsa State won the best Freestyle wrestler. Newly created best discovered wrestler award went to Udochukwu Robinson of Imo state.
