Sportinglife: Mike Tyson In ‘Superhero’ Act

THE Baddest Man on the Planet clearly has a good side. Boxing legend Mike Tyson came to the rescue of an injured motorcyclist after a crash on a Las Vegas interstate road last week. Attorney Stephen Stubbs said his client, 29-year-old Ryan Chesley, was on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas on Tuesday night when a taxi cut him off and he went down. Stubbs said Chesley was lying on the ground when he looked up and saw Tyson, who was yelling at people not to touch Chesley. Stubbs said Chesley snapped a cellphone picture of Tyson, who vanished from the scene “like some kind of superhero” when paramedics arrived. Mike Tyson’s assistant, Steve Lott, said Tyson received a handwritten thank you note and a fruit basket from Chesley on Friday. Chesley broke bones and tore ligaments, but has been released from the hospital. The incident comes just weeks after Tyson unleashed an expletive-filled rant on live TV in Canada. Tyson was appearing on the cable news channel CP24 when the host, Nathan Downer, asked him about his recent meeting with Toronto’s scandal-plagued, cocaine-smoking mayor Rob Ford. Ford recently returned to work after a stint in rehab, and is seeking re-election. “Some of your critics would say, ‘There’s a race for mayor. We know you’re a convicted rapist. This could hurt his campaign.’ How would respond to that?” Downer asked. “It’s so interesting, you come off like a nice guy,” Tyson replied, stewing over his answer for a few moments before insulting Downer with some foul language. “Hey, come on. We’re doing live TV now,” Downer said, throwing up his hands. “I don’t care. What are you going to do about it?” the retired boxer responded. “Is it nervewracking for you to do something like this, or is it more nervous for you to box?” Downer asked after a few more uncomfortable exchanges, clearly trying to ease the tension. “It’s more nervewracking to be in here talking to a rat piece of s**t like you,” Tyson answered. Tyson served three years of a six-year sentence in the 1990s for raping a teenage beauty-pageant contestant. In a tweet after the incident, Downer said it was unfortunate his question hurt Tyson’s feelings and that it wasn’t his intention.
