The WBC has announced that it will not participate in any female bout
scheduled for 12 rounds x 3 minutes. The WBC finished an unprecedented
First World Female Covention only 3 weeks ago in which many topics were
addressed and a key issue was the dispute between 10 rounds vs 12 rounds
and 2 minute rounds vs 3 minutes rounds in female boxing. It was
unanimously decided that several detailed medical studies will be
conducted as an addition to the many previously performed before,
considering permitting any female boxing match to be held for more than
10 rounds and any round to be considered for more than 2 minutes.
The WBC Female Program will not participate or sanction any fight
schedule for more than 10 rounds or any bout with rounds lasting more
than 2 minutes. Several facts were reported during the convention which
are of total concern regarding any changes of the 10 x 2 female boxing
matches :
-Women are physically inclined to have concussions, much more than men.
-A female fighter used to fight 10 x 2 which is 20 minutes, would
need tremendous effort to adjust to 12 x 3 which is 36 minutes.
-Menstrual cycle has tremendous impact on the body of a woman,
including 12 hormones which act in the body system, creating radical
changes in several areas.
-Women’s endurance has been proven to be less than men. Marathon running time is much different between male and female.
Any promoter staging a fight for 12 x 3 will be creating a tremendous
risk factor, which can lead to severe injuries. The WBC absolutely
refuses this to take place and will continue to work with proper medical
data to prove this to be a wrong decision. According to the WBC, this
decision is not discrimination or equality, rather it is based upon
established medical and safety facts.
