A Tale Of Two Keepers

It looked a done deal, but it all fell apart at the very last moment.David de Geaappeared to be on his way to theBernabéu, but is now staying at Old Trafford withVan Gaal, the man who banished him to the stands. The other player involved,Keylor Navas, isn't going anywhere either. He looked all set to take over from De Gea at Old Trafford, but is now staying at a club that transfer-listed him this summer.
The situation has hit both keepers hard. De Gea spent months dreaming of a move to Real Madrid, one which unexpectedly fell apart just as the transfer window slammed shut. He'll now have to put up with Van Gaal during his last season at Manchester United before leaving on a free transfer next summer, but that's another story.
Meanwhile, Keylor is still at Real Madrid, but the whole thing has taken its toll on him. The club tried to push him out to make room for its star summer signing. The Costa Rican looked to be on his way to Manchester United, but he's now staying with Benítez and co., fully aware that he is only there because of a failed transfer deal. He may have been the club's second choice, but that starting place in the first team is now his for the taking.
All that Real Madrid have achieved is knock both keepers' confidence. Keylor will stay on as Los Blancos' first-choice keeper, but what must he be thinking? Things are even worse for David. Will Van Gaal reinstate him now or leave him out in the cold?
